Northstar Organics improves soil health and yield with Biota fertilizers

Since early 2025, Northstar Organics in Canada has been using Biota Nutri’s liquid organic fertilizers. The switch was driven by their need for a cleaner and more efficient fertilization method. Traditional topdress fertilizers proved too dusty and failed to deliver the desired results. With Biota’s liquid products, fertilization has become cleaner, more precise, and noticeably more effective.

Shawn Dirksen, owner of Northstar Organics, was introduced to Biota through Cees van der Eenden, who shared his positive experiences with our products. To provide technical support, Robby Grass worked closely with Shawn and the Biota Netherlands technical team.

Robby analyzed the soil life at Northstar Organics. The first measurement took place in February 2025, followed by a second in September 2025. These analyses revealed clear improvements in soil biology, including:

A significant increase in beneficial nematodes
A reduction in fungi
An increase in beneficial protozoa
And a decrease in anaerobic protozoa

The results are visualized in the graph below, clearly showing the positive shift in soil health.

In addition to these soil improvements, Shawn has also observed a noticeable enhancement in crop and fruit quality, along with a higher overall yield.

“Since we started using Biota, we’ve seen our soil come to life — and that directly translates into healthier plants and better yields,” says Shawn.
