Running a sustainable and responsible company is part of our vision. We prove the growing crops with residual flows is possible without making concessions on quality and production. We develop liquid organic fertilizers using residual flows.
Minerals
For over a century, minerals have been mined to use as a nutrient source for agricultural and horticultural crops. Mining minerals is finite, while the minerals themselves are not lost. The consumption of mineral fertilizers continues to grow. Minerals are transported across the globe, while residual flows are often available locally. Fortunately, the organic production of food crops continues to develop. This has increased the demand for residual flows.
Residual flows
Recovering minerals from residual flows is possible, but no easy task. Ongoing efforts steadily improve our ability to do so. Minerals in residual flows are bound to organic substances, which slows their release. New techniques and production methods allow us to improve the mineralisation process, making the minerals immediately available to the plant.
Circular
The circular economy is developing rapidly. Biota Nutri is playing its part in the process by creating fertilizers from plants. Our plant extracts are drawn from a variety of crops. We recently set up a long-term project with the goal of growing crops using organic fertilizers created from the residual flow of the same crop. We carefully separate fibre, protein and minerals. Each new product has its own purposes.
Footprint
Biota Nutri is a member of ‘Benefits of Nature‘. Benefits of Nature is a foundation that advocates the use of footprint to improve sustainability. Biota Nutri strives to create fertilizers with the lowest possible footprint. Our goal is to go beyond ‘organic’ alone. We believe it is important to work with nature, and further reduce waste.
Future
A growing number of companies have started working on using plant protein to create meat substitutes. This will increase demand for plant-based products in the future.
An often heard complaint is that we do not have enough agricultural land to feed everyone. We do not believe this to be true. Agricultural and horticultural land is still being depleted, leading to reduced yields and crops that are susceptible to diseases and pests. A yield increase of 30% is realistically achievable in many countries. This means growers need to invest more in the soil. This will reduce disease burden and pesticide use, and further increase production.
In addition to using the right products, this also requires the right advice. Biota Nutri also works with the independent consultancy Grow Organic Advice. We believe in working together without our clients, and feel it is important that they receive the right independent advice.
